Tombstone
Great movie...but, no. I mean the villain from Spidey. Tall dude, looked like a walking corpse on steroids, dressed in a fine black on black tailored suit, and enjoyed hurting people as much as he profited from it. Well, I spent some time today going through some more old issues of comics and found my next subject. I wanted to incorporate more into this piece. I'm going to still shoot for acrylic and pens on this one granted I don't screw up and buy more oil paint. Alas, It has taught me to read thy labels tried and true. So, yeah...On this piece I'm going a bit bigger, with the theme, movement, all of it. One thing I feel that's important as an artist (professional or otherwise) is to push oneself out of their comfort zone to try new things and experiment with new mediums...like accidentaly buying oil paint when you're use to acrylic and your last painting STILL hasn't dried from two weeks ago. I digress, yes! try new things. A big thing I miss is having a solid art culture. Being surrounded by other different artists with diffent experiences and abilites. I do miss the scholastic atmosphere. There were some great artists that I went to school with. Even though the school I attended to attain my art degree was run by a bunch of crooks, I still graduated with honors swooping my Bachelors in Media arts/Animation in the process. I'm proud to say I was the last graduating class that required traditional 2d animation before the course was dropped from the roster. Leaving only the computer modeling and animation courses. That meant the new batch of animators didn't even have to learn to draw. What's next? a merchandiser that can't read? A delivery driver that can't see? Anyway, I'm rambling again....I just wanted to throw down a quick update and let you get a peek at my next upcoming piece. I am hoping to start it this weekend which is to say Monday or Tuesday.
Like I said, More stuff going on in the piece. More characters, more movement, more dynamic. There is a lot that needs to be captured in the source material, and I think the rough sketch I just showed you is heading that direction. I haven't decided if I'm going bigger as far as canvas size. I think the piece warrants it, but I have been digging keeping my world on 12x14.
