Toils with oil.....paint.

Hello there, I finally finished Hobgoblin. I have to say something happened during the process that was a mistake and I feel as though it worked out pretty damn good. A 'happy mistake' as a wise old painter used to say. I visited the art store recently to pick up a yellow hue I needed to help finish the mask, I bought oil. The whole painting and almost all of my work is a mixed media, but I have never worked too much with oil. On the second day when the paint wasn't dry I knew something was amiss. Luckily I had only primed some of the darker shadows for the creases in the mask. Alot of times I just wait for the acrylic to dry and paint right over the top to create layers just like one might do in photoshop. I hadn't used a lot of oil paint, just on key areas in his face. I was really pleased with the look of the oil. It made his face look rich, almost alive. I was pretty upset when I realized what I had done this close to finishing the piece. I was probabaly 4 to 6 hours from sketch to finished canvas in on this piece. I decided to go ahead and finish it regardeless and see how the three or four mediums I used worked together. Believe me, I was verrrrrry close to trashing it and starting over. I'm glad I forged ahead and completed it, as it gave me a serious appreciation for ANYONE painting with oil. Luckily enough I had terps on hand to help with blending clolored pencils. The terps worked better than alcohol to cut the oil and get the oil off of my skin as well.
